Book Review: House of Hades by Rick Riordan

Book 4 in The Heroes of Olympus series

Published in 2013

Pages: 583

Sypnosis from Goodreads:

At the conclusion of The Mark of Athena, Annabeth and Percy tumble into a pit leading straight to the Underworld. The other five demigods have to put aside their grief and follow Percy’s instructions to find the mortal side of the Doors of Death. If they can fight their way through the Gaea’s forces, and Percy and Annabeth can survive the House of Hades, then the Seven will be able to seal the Doors both sides and prevent the giants from raising Gaea. But, Leo wonders, if the Doors are sealed, how will Percy and Annabeth be able to escape?

They have no choice. If the demigods don’t succeed, Gaea’s armies will never die. They have no time. In about a month, the Romans will march on Camp Half-Blood. The stakes are higher than ever in this adventure that dives into the depths of Tartarus.
My Review:

After the cliffhanger that was the ending of Mark of Athena, I was properly terrified to read this, but equally excited. I mean, two of my favourite characters ever, fallen into The Underworld?! Not nerve wracking at all! But as soon as I started this book, I was thrust back into this amazing book world and it felt like I never left!

This whole book was literally edge of your seat excitement! I couldn’t put it down, and the writing was flawless! The pacing was constantly epic; and I was laughing, and screaming at times too; the foreshadowing, which is one of the many things Rick Riordan writes epically, was perfection and I couldn’t stop reading this! I honestly couldn’t predict how the events in this book would play out; and every scene was brilliant! It was awesome to see and hear about past characters, and the addition of new ones! (I mean Bob and Calypso gave me all the feels!), also, Riordan’s writing was so freaking vivid, it was flawless! There were some really intense scenes with Percy and Annabeth, and honestly it was all just so amscing to read about and I was really feeling throughout! The writing was also really haunting and bone chilling, I feel like it’ll be in my mind for plenty of time to come! I couldn’t help but feel like I was with Percy and Annabeth throughout, and it was terrifying to the core! But awesome at the same time, and frankly, feely, because the two had some really intense thoughts, and some scares.

Everyone’s character development was amazing in this book! They all played such a crucial part to the story and seeing how everything blended together was epic! These characters are honestly squad goals! I cannot wait to read Blood of Olympus, but it’s so short! So I’ll put it off til next month at least! This series is an all time favourite and I don’t want it to end!
Until next time, happy reading! Brooklyn 🙂
