From holy cup comes holy light;
The faithful hands sets world aright.
And in the Seven Martyrs’ sight,
Mere man shall end this endless night.
It has been twenty-seven long years since the last sunrise. For nearly three decades, vampires have waged war against humanity; building their eternal empire even as they tear down our own. Now, only a few tiny sparks of light endure in a sea of darkness.
Gabriel de León is a silversaint: a member of a holy brotherhood dedicated to defending realm and church from the creatures of the night. But even the Silver Order couldn’t stem the tide once daylight failed us, and now, only Gabriel remains.
Imprisoned by the very monsters he vowed to destroy, the last silversaint is forced to tell his story. A story of legendary battles and forbidden love, of faith lost and friendships won, of the Wars of the Blood and the Forever King and the quest for humanity’s last remaining hope:
The Holy Grail.
From the New York Times bestselling author of the Nevernight Chronicle, Jay Kristoff, comes the first book of an astonishing illustrated dark fantasy saga.
Fuck. My. Face.
Epic, devastating, epic, devastating. Earth shattering, nail biting, heartbreakingly poignant. Savage. With a semi- healthy dash of hope…
All of these could be used to describe ‘Empire of the Vampire’ by Jay Kristoff, which I think has been atop of everyone’s most anticipated releases list since Jay Kristoff announced it! Oh, gosh it absolutely did not disappoint!! The first page was absolutely so poignant and hit home in every possible way and pretty much from there it felt like I’d stumbled upon a new all time favourite book, one that I swiftly wanted to reread it, a feeling that has only completely heightened now that I’ve finished it! *Cries in infinite TBR*.
Everything about this book, in my opinion, was honestly absolutely perfection, although what wasn’t perfection was the all-too-familiar feeling of dread that dawned upon me once I got to a certain point within this brutal book! Well, I say it wasn’t perfection but let’s face it, we know and love the savagery that is Jay Kristoff, destroyer of readers souls personified! Honestly, I’m just low-key floored still….I loved (and love still) Gabe’s character, Dior, Astrid, Aaron…honestly, all of these characters ARC’s were absolutely phenomenal! Greyhand, Chloe, Saoirse….Ashdrinker, Jean-Francois! So many disctict, explosive and altogether memorably brutal characters, all of whom add to the majestic, stabby glory that is Empire of the Vampire!
So, thank you, thank you, thank you for this book, Jay. Thank you, he who wields words like swords!!
happy reading, you’ll cry, but you’ll rejoice too, cry some more, heartily chuckle, cry more, but oh, you’ll love every moment! 🖤
