Sypnosis from Hachette Australia –
Charlie didn’t think Nick could ever like him back, but now they’re officially boyfriends. Charlie’s beginning to feel ready to say those three little words: I love you.
Nick’s been feeling the same, but he’s got a lot on his mind – not least coming out to his dad, and the fact that Charlie might have an eating disorder.
As summer turns to autumn and a new school year begins, Charlie and Nick are about to learn a lot about what love means.
Heartstopper is about love, friendship, loyalty and mental illness. It encompasses all the small stories of Nick and Charlie’s lives that together make up something larger, which speaks to all of us.
My Review:
I received a copy of Heartstopper Vol 4 from the lovely team at Hachette Australia/Date A Book in exchange for an honest review, all thoughts are my own.
Oh. My. Heart. I’ve said it once and I’ll absolutely say it many, many more times, Heartstopper is honestly like a big warm wholesome hug in a book! Prior to reading Volume 4, I voraciously reread Volumes 1-3 and honestly just felt so happy doing it, Nick and Charlie are the utmost precious little cinnamon rolls and need to be protected at all costs!
As I was reading Volume 4, I didn’t want it to end! Primarily, because I absolutely love these Graphic Novels with every fibre of my being, but also because it’s the second to last installment in the series! I’m already so, so looking forward to reading the final installment, it’ll be absolutely delightful! But it’s going to be completely emotional reading the last volume! *Cries*.
Volume 4 of Heartstopper tackles so many delicate yet completely important themes, from trying to tell someone that you love them, to a loved one struggling to help another loved one with mental health. I mean, I’m really trying to keep this spoiler free for those who might not have read Heartstopper just yet, but oh, I absolutely loved everything about this fourth installment!
The friendships! I absolutely loved seeing the Paris Squad together again (for my fellow Heartstopper enthusiastists, you know the fabulous friendship group (including Nick and Charlie, naturally!), just how much they can all rely on one another and trust each other even when sometimes their family life might not be healthy and supportive (Alice Oseman really knows how to pluck at our heartstrings, depicting scenes where we learn about some of the toxic environments surrounding some of her amazing characters!).
The illustrations, as always are completely heartfelt, sometimes across a couple of pages there won’t be as many words, but the illustrations speak beautiful volumes! I completely, hands down recommend reading Heartstopper if you haven’t already!
Happy Reading,
Brooklyn.
