Sypnosis from Penguin Books Australia

The new novel by New York Times #1 bestselling author Candice Fox is an electrifying cat-and-mouse thriller set in the Nevada desert.

Candice Fox has been described by the Sydney Morning Herald as ‘one of Australia’s finest new gen crime writers’ and her latest novel is another thrilling ride, as a mass prison breakout lets loose 650 of the country’s most dangerous prisoners.

‘Are you listening, Warden?’

‘What do you want?’

‘I want you to let them out.’

‘Which inmates are we talking about?’

‘All of them.

When more than 600 of the world’s most violent human beings pour out from Pronghorn Correctional Facility into the Nevada Desert, the biggest manhunt in US history begins.

But for John Kradle, this is his one chance to prove his innocence, five years after the murder of his wife and child.

He just needs to stay one step ahead of the teams of law enforcement officers he knows will be chasing down the escapees.

Death row supervisor turned fugitive-hunter Celine Osbourne is single-minded in her mission to catch Kradle. She has very personal reasons for hating him – and she knows exactly where he’s heading . . .

My Review:

A huge thank you to Penguin Books Australia for sending me a review copy of The Chase to read and review, all thoughts are my own.

The Chase is such an intense, exciting, enthralling and engaging page turner! The initial premise was so intense! Imagine, 600 of the world’s most dangerous criminals being on the loose, wrecking havoc! Right on the tail of one John Kradle, a man who’s fiercely determined to prove his innocence, is death row supervisor, Celine Osbourne. I found myself really enjoying Kradle and Celine Osbourne’s cat and mouse type chase, really finding myself looking forward to their page time together, whether it was a fleeting phone conversation, or when they came face to face!

John Kradle, five years ago, was given a sentence for killing his wife and young son, though he always claimed his innocence! I found myself initially assuming that indeed he might have still been guilty of the crime, but then I found myself fiercely starting to think that he didn’t actually do it! Yet, its Celine Osbourne (among others, too) that firmly believe that he did do the crime and are hugely determined to see him back behind bars! The element of intrigue and completely mystery too, were just all conveyed so vividly that the action truly felt like it was leaping across the page, everything reading like a fabulous cinematic blockbuster!

I honest feel like it’s best to go in The Chase knowing not a great deal about the intricacies of the plot and the inner workings of the characters mindsets, but I will just add that there was so much going on throughout The Chase, with so many different characters getting page time and us readers getting into the nitty gritty of their mindset, it was completely intense and made for a completely intriguing Thriller, I’m so excited to have discovered Candice Fox’s writing and I can’t wait to read more of her books and I completely recommend The Chase!

Happy Reading,

Brooklyn.
