Goodreads Sypnosis:

There’s no such thing as safe in a city at war, a city overrun with monsters. In this dark urban fantasy from author Victoria Schwab, a young woman and a young man must choose whether to become heroes or villains—and friends or enemies—with the future of their home at stake. The first of two books.

Kate Harker and August Flynn are the heirs to a divided city—a city where the violence has begun to breed actual monsters. All Kate wants is to be as ruthless as her father, who lets the monsters roam free and makes the humans pay for his protection. All August wants is to be human, as good-hearted as his own father, to play a bigger role in protecting the innocent—but he’s one of the monsters. One who can steal a soul with a simple strain of music. When the chance arises to keep an eye on Kate, who’s just been kicked out of her sixth boarding school and returned home, August jumps at it. But Kate discovers August’s secret, and after a failed assassination attempt the pair must flee for their lives.

My Review:

In all earnest, I had no idea what to expect from this book, only that it would be one heck of a reading journey; and surely feels would ensue:

This is definitely, in my opinion, worth all the hype; and more! I have not read anything like this before, and highly doubt I will again! I’m definitely going to dive into Our Dark Duet right away!

This book was so fierce; it had everything in it; and so much more!! I loved the concept of this book; and seeing everything play out with all those twists and turns was absolutely wicked! The characters, especially August and Kate, made me feel so emotional, for a mixture of reasons! Utterly brilliant!

It is official! Schwab never ceases to amaze me! This book was so wicked, and dark and intense: I couldn’t get enough; I confess, when I first started reading this, I missed Lila and Rhy and the crew from ADSOM (I still do), yet, in August and Kate, I have found two additional favourite Schwab characters. I loved everything about this book, EVERYTHING! Not only was there never a dull moment; but there was so much action and excitement and suspense! I could not have predicted what would come next; and oh boy, did I love those twists and turns? oh yes! and by the ending! I was gasping! there were moments between the characters that had me totally feeling; and others left me shocked! my eyes were so wide by the time I finished this; I had no idea how it would end and I was completely blown away; and had all of the chills! This is definitley going on my favourites and I can’t wait to read “Our Dark Duet!”

I’m going to leave it there, but oh my! If you’ve been thinking of picking up this book, go for it! I’m still thinking about that freaking ending as I type!

Happy reading book dragons! 📚
