Sypnosis from Goodreads:

In a secret world where half-angel warriors are sworn to fight demons, parabatai is a sacred word.

A parabatai is your partner in battle. A parabatai is your best friend. Parabatai can be everything to each other—but they can never fall in love.
Emma Carstairs is a warrior, a Shadowhunter, and the best in her generation. She lives for battle. Shoulder to shoulder with her parabatai, Julian Blackthorn, she patrols the streets of Los Angeles, where vampires party on the Sunset Strip, and faeries—the most powerful of supernatural creatures—teeter on the edge of open war with Shadowhunters. When the bodies of humans and faeries turn up murdered in the same way Emma’s parents were when she was a child, an uneasy alliance is formed. This is Emma’s chance for revenge—and Julian’s chance to get back his brother Mark, who is being held prisoner by the faerie Courts. All Emma, Mark, and Julian have to do is solve the murders within two weeks…and before the murderer targets them.
Their search takes Emma from sea caves full of sorcery to a dark lottery where death is dispensed. And each clue she unravels uncovers more secrets. What has Julian been hiding from her all these years? Why does Shadowhunter Law forbid parabatai to fall in love? Who really killed her parents—and can she bear to know the truth?
The darkly magical world of Shadowhunters has captured the imaginations of millions of readers across the globe. Join the adventure in Lady Midnight, the long-awaited first volume of a new trilogy from Cassandra Clare.

My Review:

I don’t even know where to begin, honestly. I have just finished this book and I’m flailing, this was freaking outstanding and honestly I don’t think I can word coherently but oh my gosh I’m gonna give it a go!

I loved all these characters, basically. Emma Carstairs is freaking amazing! She’s sassy and fierce and brave and oh my gosh she went through so much in this book! And she’d already been through so much when we initially met her in City of Heavenly Fire! Like oh my gosh I’m in awe of her character and I freaking loved seeing her and Julian again; talk about angst! I love them as parabatai; I love how they understand each other so well, and I love the depth that this novel went in terms of giving us characterisation; I felt like Clare really let the reader get inside the mind and personalities of the characters. I loved all the Blackthorns, especially Mark. He is honestly so precious and I felt for him throughout; honestly how would I feel if I was in his position? Probably would’ve done the same!
But I love the interactions between each sibling; they are all great characters and I love how they stand together! A lot of their dialogue and scenes made me emotional!! I swear only Cassandra Clare could introduce so many siblings and make it feel natural and flawless!!

And speaking of characters; I was fangirling so much when other characters from Shadowhunter novels kept popping up! It was amazing and perfectly feely! I loved everyone’s interactions!

The writing was freaking outstanding! Honestly the pace felt smooth to me, I was constantly hooked and addicted and I couldn’t put it down! Every emotion was packed into these pages and I am definitely feeling adrenaline after finishing it! I found this book was definitely haunting at times too and oh my freaking god what was the epilogue?! I was screaming! Honestly, how everything came together had me speechless and it was freaking amazing.

On a random note, I love how much the sea features in this book; I found it to be a beautiful setting and I love how symbolic it was at times.

Okay, I definitely know I could keep ranting but I think I’ll leave it there, honestly, perfect book is perfect. Bring on Lord of Shadows! Though there is a short story at the end of this book which I’m excited to read first.

Okay, that’s really all. Happy reading!
